Kunnimanikal by Unni Menon - Album Kanmani

Some time back I had posted a song video Kanmani from an album titled Kanmani by Rajesh Naroth to bring it to my reader's attention. Recently the Kanmani team released its second video on youtube.
This video has no dancing and frolicking and the song plays as a backdrop to nostalic vistas of childhood mischief. An unusual quality in the video is that the present time starts off as black and white and the flashback is in color...Is it an indication for all our colorful past and routine laden present? The rest is left to you to watch and comment.

Kunnimanikal was shot in Northern Kerala in the outskirts of Kadathanad, a place made famous by the thacholi family. Feedback welcome, both positive and negative.

sudhesh didnt shoot this one? hmm one can see the difference, i must say. nostalgia-becomes the predominant NRI emotion in engaging with the present-and also with the space-thats v interesting. two predominant emotional forms -honest ofcourse- form the NRI's engagement-1.the aggressive call for change-improvement, and 2. the nostalgia- both seem to be in real conflict-with each other- may be a reflection of the inner conflict itself of the NRI? do you think so? I would have loved for Sudesh to do the cinematography for this one. But he wasn't available in Kerala at the time.

Shaheen, Thanks for posting the video. The responses have been great so far. You're right about the color clues. Present is grey and childhood is colorful.

Unni Menon is a fantastic singer. His simple rendering has made this song so special. Thank you Rajesh for picking Unni to sing this one -- I wish we get to hear more Malayalam songs from Unni.
